HEROD AND THE SLAUGHTER OF THE INNOCENTS
A guardian angel, shepherds and kings, the Holy Family, a tyrant and his bloodthirsty son, bumbling scholars, innocents who sing after death, the mother who mourns them – Herod and the Slaughter of the Innocents has one of the most sophisticated and moving collection of characters in all of medieval music drama.
An international cast, directed by University of York postgraduate Mary E. Larew, brings this thirteenth century drama to life fully staged, fully costumed, and with new instrumental interludes performed on period instruments.
